I got a bit critical of broadcasters and journalists yesterday, so I suppose I should really balance things out today, and the above YouTube file helps me do just that.
I strongly recommend you watch John Sweeney of Panorama’s investigation into the goings on at the so-called Church of Scientology. I, for one, was absolutely amazed at what I learned.
Previously, I thought it was simply a crackpot organisation that was favoured by some of Hollywood’s leading actors who had too much money and time on their hands.
Now, thanks to Sweeney’s bravery and perseverance, I realise it is something much more sinister. The only mistake he makes in his reportage in my view is towards the end when he apologizes to everyone for losing his cool when the church’s “intellectual muscle” challenges him for the umpteenth time.
I’m telling you, I would have lost the head a whole lot sooner with those freaks.
The scary thing is the extreme lengths they go to in order to keep followers under their spell. Total control over every aspect of their lives. Completely severing ties with their families. Not only discrediting those who try to delve too deep into their affairs, but also openly harassing them in public. Orchestrating a calculated campaign to create a ludicrous conspiracy theory about the entire psychiatric profession (to the point of suggesting they were directly involved in the holocaust) so that followers could never be persuaded by a professional that they had indeed lost the plot.
But most of all, this documentary makes me want to do one thing on my blog, and I hope that when you see it you’ll want to do it to.

Dammit, I missed this - heard an ad for it and meant to watch it. Apparently he went absolutely ballistic when he did finally lose it. Hope it's repeated at some point.

Was gob-smacked to discover that Anne Archer is a Scientologist. And the guy who was constantly on Sweeny's tail and attacking like some human version of a rotweiler is actually Archer's son??!!!
Have none of these reasobably intelligent ( I assume) celebrities every heard of the Emperor has no clothes story?
It's a corporation, makes loadsa money, and will do everything in it's power to protect its revenue source, people.
Personally I think John Sweeney's doco has done more than anyone else to out the cult. And that is why they are so scared of him. Panorama, BBC1, big audience. Hopefully no one is going to take them seriously again, except of course for some deluded celebs.
