mary mary quite contrary

Yes, I know I’ve used that cartoon before.

The thing is, the news item that inspired it has happened again, and seemingly will happen yet again, so I don’t see why I shouldn’t use it again.

And in between all of this misdiagnoses uproar, which has actually led to, you know, people DYING…what has our esteemed government been busying themselves with when it comes to our health service?

They’ve only been trying to build more private hospitals, that’s what.

Let us be absolutely, totally clear about this.

MARY HARNEY NEEDS TO RESIGN.

Never mind the fact that people are being given critically wrong information or that people are lying on trollies.

Never mind the fact that even the dogs in the street know that making the health service easier for rich people won’t necessarily make it easier for poor people.

How about the fact that her party, or what’s left of it, is part of our government when we completely decimated its Dáil representation at the last election???

If passing the buck were an Olympic Sport, Harney would have have brought more golds back from Beijing than Michael Phelps.

I’m sick of it, I’m sick of her, I’m sick of putting up with it all, I want her out NOW.

And how about the fact that the leaders of the Dáil’s two main parties, Taoiseach Without Mandate Brian Cowen and Enda “Can He?”, BOTH need to show the Irish people that they are or could be competent leaders of the country? I would have thought that coming out and pledging to put all their efforts into untangling the HSE quagmire would demonstrate just that?

No, I couldn’t see it happening either. Nor, I suppose, could I see Harney resigning.

But what about the Irish Left? That sleeping, er, giant? Is it a giant? I’m not so sure anymore. But I’ll tell you this much, fixing the health service is definitely a job they should be focussing on.

I say to hell with electoral mandates and programmes for government.

Give the portfolio to Pat Rabbitte and let him get on with it.

I’m deadly serious, by the way.
